AI is damaging the educational system.
AI is severely endangering the development of creative skills, executive functioning, and independent qualities, as well as the overall creativity of our youth. Before recently technology made artificial intelligence platforms widely accessible, kids and teens did not have as much of an influence on their ideas, and, when faced with a challenge, had an opportunity to address it in a way which both provided them with the critical thinking skills needed in the professional world and also the genuine enjoyment and self-confidence that comes from coming up with an original and creative idea. AI fuels the non-proactive view that challenges and creative projects in school are simply chores that can be done as busywork, rather than opportunities to learn and think. Modern technology has made a world of hyper-comfort and ease that has gone too far and threatens the innovation and culture of our current and future generations. Human advancement would never have gotten as far as it is today without the unique and creative thoughts of great thinkers, and the system of automatic gratification that AI supplies discourages the birth of new ideas and teaches people that the healthy amount of struggle that actually encourages progress is not necessary because it doesn’t meet the standards of luxury of today’s life. AI is harming education and happiness by making people too accustomed to instant gratification and taking away one of the purest and most gratifying joys of making something new with your own mind and skills.
